Competitive play

The Shootout

The SCHH Pickleball Club Shootout Format––Overview

The Shootout is a fun, competitive pickleball format designed to match players against others performing at a similar level throughout the weekly sessions. Unlike traditional round robins, players move up or down between rounds based on their performance, creating competitive games for everyone. (This is not a DUPR event). You will choose your level based on self rating, and your performance with dictate which level you will play every four to six weeks.

How It Works

  • Players are assigned to a court for the opening round ( approx. 1 hour of play)
  • Each court plays either 3 or 4 games based on whether you have 4 or 5 players assigned to your court. Games are either played to 11 or  8, win by 1.
  • Game scores are recorded and Individual points scored each game are recorded for every player. (Example: Team A - 11points vs. Team B - 7 points)
  • At the end of round 1, players are ranked on their court by the total percentage of points earned. (Example - 4 players on court in round 1, 3 games total are played, rotating partners.

Court Movement –– After ROUND 1:

  • The top two finishers move up one court.
  • The bottom two finishers move down one court.
  • Up to six courts can be played.
  • Round 2 is then played.

At the conclusion of Round 2, players are ranked based on total points available and their percentage of points earned in both the first and second rounds for that session.  Overall rankings include previous sessions and all players that have participated thus far.

Individual Competition

  • Although games are played in doubles, the Shootout is an individual competition.
  • This is not a DUPR event, you may choose the level you wish to participate in, however, you may not play in two different levels. Once you make your choice, your results will dictate whether you stay in the group level, move up or move down based on 4 week periods of time.

How are we assigning courts, accumulating scores, and assembling results?

We are beta testing a website/app that we have assembled specifically for SCHH Pickleball Club Shootouts. You are welcome to view the website/app to see which groups have already played since Mid July 2026, and how the players are ranked at this point in time.
